Chioma Jesus, a member of the Igbo ethnic group in eastern Nigeria, was born on February 12, 1972, to Lolo Dorathy and the late Nze Euzebius Chukwumaeze Ebizie of Ogboza Autonomous Community, Amanator clan, Ideato South Local Government Area, Imo State. Despite being born and raised in Aba, Abia State, where her parents resided, she was given the name Amaka Ebizie at birth. As the eldest of seven children, Chioma faced the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings after the unfortunate loss of both her parents.

During her upbringing, life was relatively good for the Ebizie family. However, everything changed after the passing of Chioma’s parents. Despite the challenges, she took on the role of provider for her siblings. It was during this time that a young Chioma discovered her passion for singing at her local church. Eventually, she embraced her faith and became a born-again Christian, joining the scripture union.

Chioma’s life became centered around her faith, which sometimes made things difficult for her. One particular instance occurred during her final year of secondary school when her classmates planned to bribe invigilators for exam malpractice. Despite facing threats and bullying for refusing to participate due to her belief that it was a sin, Chioma remained steadfast and emerged from the situation unharmed.

As previously stated, Chioma Jesus developed a deep connection with Christ during her childhood when she joined the church choir. Her involvement in the Scripture Union further fueled her passion for singing, with her pastor serving as a source of inspiration and encouragement.

Over time, Chioma began receiving invitations to perform at various church events, gatherings, and religious campaigns. In the late 1990s or early 2000s, she was invited to showcase her talent at St. Andrews Anglican Church in Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Her reputation for touching souls with her voice had preceded her, leading to her invitation by Venerable Azubuike Ugoha. Chioma’s performances at the church were exceptional, earning her a permanent place as a member. She eventually settled in the city and officially launched her music career in 2002/2003.

Before fully dedicating herself to gospel music, Chioma was involved in small-scale food trading. However, she made the decision to leave it all behind and focus solely on her music. As a result, she has become a well-known figure, particularly among those who understand the Igbo language. To reach a wider audience, she has incorporated English and other Nigerian languages into her music.
